It Irritates You
3/26/02
Words: Walter Koning
That ring on your finger
Does it mean you’re engaged
Are you happy together
He puts up with your rage
When you were friends
You didn’t give a damn
But now
Now that you love him it means something
Now that you love him it irritates you
Toilet seats up and random comments
Leave you upset when it didn’t before
When you first started dating it was all for the love
He’d do this for you and you’d do that for him
You took it all in
And disgusted us all with the lovey dove
But now that you love him it means something
Now that you love him it irritates you
Being a guy or hanging out with friends
You seem so uptight, you never were before
You do things that I don’t like and I just let it go
When I do things that you don’t like the whole world has to know
The bed we share and the meals we cook
The life we lead somehow causes conflict
We listen to the radio on the way home from work
All of the songs about love but you think I’m a jerk
Should we break up, should we just let it go
Then you’d never be able to listen to the radio
When we’re happy together
It’s worth all the rage
I just let things go to keep it casual
When we were friends we didn’t give a damn
But now
Now that you love me it means something
Now that you love me I irritate you
The little things you blew off before
Leave you upset when it didn’t before

It started out as bomb for bomb
This war torn land
This war torn man
Fight for freedom
Do everything you can
Once we built stockpiles of weapons
To fight a cold hearted war
Now we watch and wait
Russia’s Putin told us to hesitate
Miles from now we’ll have to live with the fate
Unless we stop to negotiate
It’s no longer 1980 or 90 it’s 2002
We’re still struggling to fight our enemy
Not Russia
Not China
Nothing other than the unknown
We fight an axis of evil and a preventable loss
We fight the unknown
But at what cost
Bush called out Iraq, Iran, North Korea
Bombs
Boom
Crash

“It Was a Kite Day”
4/30/02
Words: Walter Koning
It was a kite day
A bright day
The parking lot full at the lot where you pay
$10 a day
It was a kite day
A windy day
Bone chilling day
Wind blowing away
It was a kite day
A nice day
To be inside and watch the leaves sway all day
And paper trash fly around near the bay
It was a kite day
Today

“And Many More”
1/20/02
Words: Walter Koning
I question my wants and needs
My emotional greed
The stomach I fill
And who else I should feed
I question my love
Whether it’s recipricol enough
And at the end of the day
How many people can fill my cup
Who can fill me up
Is it one love, one heart
That I’m thinking of
Who can bring out the best in me
Who will enjoy my imperfect cup
Down the road of life
I’ll ride a thousand miles
Before I settle down
Then I’ll settle for awhile
Until I get antsy and anxious
I’ll lose interest
Want more
Feel stuck in a stranglehold
Then where will I be
Same as now
Except a thousand miles
Further into life
Travelling another road
